Lawmaker proposes Medi-Cal coverage of chronic disease program

Hundreds of thousands of people have benefited from a disease-management program developed by Kate Lorig, DrPH, professor emeritus of immunology and rheumatology. Now, if Assemblyman Joe Coto (D-San Jose) has his way, the program for chronic disease patients could aid even more people and also lower California’s health-care bill. (more)

Far-reaching new reforms become law for Santa Clara Valley Water District

The largest drinking water provider in Santa Clara County will be required to adopt nearly a dozen reforms, from more open records to limits on revolving-door hiring, under a new state law. (more)

Water news: Governor signs local reform bill

The governor signed a bill that will impose a list of reforms relating to open government and responsible spending at the Santa Clara Valley Water District.

Assembly bill 466 was introduced to the California assembly in April by Assemblymember Joe Coto (D, San Jose) in response to growing complaints of waste and unfair hiring practices among the public.

The bill was signed Sunday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. (more)
